Congratulations to the Syracuse Junior Sky Chiefs Red!

Congratulations to the Syracuse Junior Sky Chiefs Red

The Syracuse Junior Sky Chief Red team capped off an amazing summer by finishing 2nd out of a field of 96 teams. The pony baseball style games were held at the Cooperstown Dreams Park in beautiful Cooperstown New York, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, the week of August 4th 2007. The team consisted of a select group of 12 year old players picked from the central New York region.

The team's long journey to Cooperstown started in the fall of 2005. Over the next two years coach Mike Marra saw his team mature as young players. Their 2006 Cooperstown campaign ended with a respectable 4-6 record. 2007 saw a much expanded schedule. The Chiefs played in a Sunday Pony, travel league where they compiled a 35-1 record. Tournament wins included the New York State Pony league and the Eastern Pony League held in New Haven Connecticut.

In August of this year the Chiefs found themselves in the birthplace of baseball, Cooperstown New York. They compiled a 6-0 record. This was good enough to earn a #3 seeding in the field of 96 teams. The Sky Chiefs continued to have playoff victories over teams from Florida, California, Connecticut and Washington State to get to the finals. The final game was an experience of a lifetime for these young men. The festivities included fireworks and a ceremonial lap around the field where both teams got to "high five" many of the 4,500 in attendance. During the game the fireworks continued, thanks to the bats of the California Sliders. They pounded out 13 runs to defeat the Sky Chiefs concluding a 46-2 dream season. It was a pleasure watching this talented group of young men work out at Perfect Practice last fall and winter.

Congratulations, Junior Chiefs!
