Bishop Ludden Takes Sectionals!
The Gaelic Nights of Bishop Ludden won their second consecutive class B sectional championship. The Knights went through tough Mt. Markham (3-0) and Lowville (8-2) teams before challenging last year's final foe Canastota for the class B-2 title. Left hander Ryan Poplawski showed his heroics both on the mound and at the plate. After pitching a scoreless first, Poplawski struck with a lead off home run that put the Knights ahead 1-0. Ludden struck again in the third on a single by freshmen John Rooney scoring Poplawski and Mike Solan. Canastota fought back to get two of their own, but Ludden would hang on to win 3-2. Poplawski finished a spectacular performance striking out 12.
In an exciting class B championship final Ludden defeated local rival Westhill. Ryan Ross led the offensive charge with a single and a double allowing John Rooney to get his third RBI in the last two games. Mike Kogut added another run with some outstanding base running. The Ludden pitching trio of McFadden, Rooney and Poplawski held the power hitting Westhill club to a scattered six hits. Pat Pastore had the defensive play of the year in right field to seal the Knight's second consecutive class B ring.
A Perfect Practice Congratulations!
Congratulations to the Bishop Ludden Gaelic Knights baseball team for winning their second Section B championship in as many years. The Knights off-season hitting program started at Perfect Practice in November of 2006. It's been my pleasure to watch the dedicated players and parents of the boy's baseball program work hard to achieve their lofty goals. A special congratulations goes out to First County All Team players, Ryan Ross, Terry McFadden, John Rooney and Ryan Poplawski, second team honors go out to Mike Kogut, with Mike Sisson getting honorable mention. Ross, McFadden and Kogut are employees of Perfect Practice. Nice job, boys!
